Human Rights. New video presents the faces of LGBT “everyday heroes” to the world

HIGH DEF. The contributions that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people make to families and local communities around the world are celebrated in a new video produced by the UN human Rights Office for its Free and Equal campaign.

Award. Philippe Val, Charlie Hebdo’s Former Editor, Wins Geneva Human Rights Prize

GENEVA, May 17 2015 Geneva-based human rights group UN Watch awarded its prestigious annual human rights prize to Philippe Val, the French author, humorist, and former editor of Charlie Hebdo, “for having the courage to speak out when others were silent, defending democracy and the human right to live, think, and laugh.”

ATHINA. Police in Athens frequently harass and abuse homeless people, people who use drugs, and sex workers, Human Rights Watch said today. Police stops and arbitrary detention of people who live or spend considerable amounts of time on the streets of downtown Athens interfere with their access to healthcare and support services.
